Today, technical textiles are what make the difference.
There are obvious things like mouth masks. But there's so much more. The use of
technical textiles to protect and save lives is increasing.
WHAT IS TECHNICALTEXTILE?
The third pillar in the textile industry is technical
textiles. They are also the basis for fashion textiles. This is a range of
textile products that address a variety of industrial and social challenges.
There are many more challenges today than ever before. The Corona Covid-19 virus holds the world captive. This cruel beast is being fought
with every ounce of our strength. This is where technical textiles play an
important role. This series will discuss how, what, and why. This article will
focus on mattress protectors.
BED AS COMFORTABLE AND AS RISK
A bed is the ideal place to feel at ease and recharge for
the day, whether it's at home or abroad.
Beds can also be a fire place for bacteria, mites, and bed
bugs. You don't want to know what is living in your bed. It's also a place
where viruses like Covid-19 can settle. This is not surprising considering that
we lose on average 40 cl per night. That's about 150 liters of fluid each year.
Even though we cough and drool occasionally every night, it doesn't mean that
we have to be sick. All this moisture can penetrate the mattress's smallest
pores without a waterproof cover.
Hotels and hospitals have used waterproof mattress covers
for years. They are still necessary today.
There are many types of mattress protectors. There are three
types of mattress protectors:
Sheets for mattresses: only covers the mattress' surface and is typically fastened to each corner with elastic.
- Fitted sheets: Also covers the sides.
- Covers the entire mattress with integral zippers
- Hospitals can only use the latter.
DO NOT SAY MATTRESS PROTECTOR
Some waterproof protective covers are not suitable for
fighting coronavirus. The ready-to-wear technical aspects of protective
clothing are important. However, the main role for the waterproof cover is
played by the material it is made.
We are the global market leader in producing technical
textiles for high-protective mattress covers. This is because we understand how
important the fabric composition (technical textiles).
It is essential that the top layer of the mattress that
comes in contact with the body be waterproof. This prevents liquid from getting
into the mattress. While some materials may appear waterproof, they are not.
Hospitals with multiple pathologies may have additional
requirements. These include biocompatibility, flame resistance according to EN,
ISO and BS standards, absolute & certified barriers against blood pathogens
and body fluids as well as antibacterial and ant fungi treatments of the PU
coating.
Our top-selling hospital mattress covers are made with a PU
coating, which was specifically designed for this purpose. This blend is our
own creation. This layer is applied to fabric that stretches slightly (but not
too much) using a transfer coating technique.
Mattress protectors should not be too heavy for healthcare
professionals. The majority weigh between 120 to 250 grams per square meter. A
cover with zipper can easily weigh between 450 and 950 grams per bed.
WASH, DISINFECT and STERILIZE
There are many factors that go into choosing the right
mattress protector. As with mouth masks and mattress protectors, not all
mattresses that are water-repellent will protect you from the coronavirus.
Mattress protectors for hospitals or crisis centers during
pandemics should be washable at 95 degrees Celsius and can be sterilized. They
must also be resistant to active and inactive chlorine, as well as a broad
range of disinfectants. They must also be able to withstand high temperatures
washing and drying.
